Amalfi Coast Inspired Wedding at the Shoreby Club

Carla and Ross

A Love Story Inspired by the Beauty of the Amalfi Coast

Bold pinks. Vibrant blues. Bright yellows.  Feel a bit like a visit to the Amalfi coast?  It should!  Helping beautiful bride Carla and dapper groom, Ross, plan and execute their Italian inspired nuptials at the Shoreby Club in Cleveland, Ohio was every bit as exciting as a trip aboard.

I had an amazing time working with this couple who did not fear playing with color and bold designs–including stationery that incorporated tributes to their own family crests, their love of Washington D.C. and even the gorgeous sunsets that Clevelanders can see from the shores of Lake Erie.

We started with a double sided Save the Date design that utilized an engagement photo taken by New Image Photography on one side and a custom, hand painted wedding crest on the other.  When we started talking about their crest, Carla made it clear that bringing the Italian coast to Cleveland was one of the biggest design sticking points.  We decided some easy ways to do this were bringing in lots of lemony yellows, some bright bougainvillea florals and the stunning blue you envision when staring out at the Salerno Gulf.  She also had the incredible idea to utilize her own family crest as well as the family crest of her fiance.  These were hand painted and placed onto potted lemon trees which adorned the sides of the crest. We also incorporated cherry blossoms as an homage to the city where they met–Washington D.C. and a painting of the Washington Monument, the Capitol, and Tower City to keep Cleveland in the loop!

After save the dates were sent out we began working on a custom wedding invitation suite that would do this beautiful couple justice.  It was fun to reutilize the crest as a repeating pattern as artwork on the back of their wedding invitations.  The front however, definitely took the cake.  We chose the iconic Lake Erie sunset their guests were later able to see from the veranda at the Shoreby Club, to showcase and adorned it with more lemons, cherry blossoms, and bougainvillea as well as Italian inspired blue tiles.

To top it all off, Carla asked me to hand paint the tennis shoes she would wear later in the evening!  These beauties brought the whole day together in a cohesive and colorful way!

The day was gorgeous–absolute perfection!  And it was truly my honor to spend time working with this couple to paint their wedding invitations and stationery!

A perfect sunset to end the day!
